10 Healthiest Foods

There are so many healthy foods that naming only 10 healthiest foods seems fruitless. Almost all natural, whole foods are going to be nourishing to the body. Healthy eating is relative to many factors. For instance berries are loaded with antioxidant properties, but to prevent certain disease, or to heal cancer dark leafy greens are preferred.

If a person were lacking in a certain nutrient, such as vitamin C, the healthiest food for them would be limes, lemons, broccoli, and oranges. By the way, broccoli has twice the amount of vitamin C than an orange.

10 Healthiest Foods: Sprouts, Greens, Wheat Grass

Dark leafy greens, and wheat grass juice are both very nutritious and should be considered in the cancer prevention diet. All varieties of sprouts as well as wheat grass are “live” foods because they are still growing and “living” when they are eaten. Wheat grass, greens and sprouts pack a lot of chlorophyll, a life giving substance.

Each wheat sprout variety is different from the other in nutritional content. Growing several different varieties of sprouts would be beneficial to your health.

Mung bean sprouts have a lot of protein and vitamin A, while alfalfa sprouts boasts a full range of vitamins. Both sprouts are highly nutritious in their own right. Growing both for nutritional purposes would be a great idea.

10 Healthiest Foods: Broccoli, Kale, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts

What do all four of these foods have in common? They are all members of the cabbage family and are cruciferous plants. They are highly beneficial to digestive and colon disorders and used for healing in these areas.

As you can see eating healthy food is right at our fingertips. If you’re going to cook your veggies, only lightly steam them so they retain their nutritional value.

Growing your own cabbage and broccoli organically would be highly advantageous. You could walk right outside your front door and pick chemical free produce.

The cruciferous family of veggies grows best in the cooler months into spring when the weather is rainier and not as hot. Once it warms up in summer, the cabbage family of plants will not grow as well.

10 Healthiest Foods: Berries, Apples

Berries such as strawberries, black berries and blue berries are powerful foods. They are chalk full of antioxidants. Eating organically grown berries would be quite healthful.

Apples are also excellent for a snack food and provide pectin (soluble fiber) and other nourishing nutrients. It is somewhat true that “an apple a day will keep the doctor away”.

Understand that ALL naturally grown fruits are good for your health. So we should not discount any fruit that would benefit our body. Juicing an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables is also a wonderful way to receive energy and nutrients in the morning for breakfast.

Healthy Foods: Sweet Potato and Avocado

Both the avocado and sweet potato are worth mentioning because they are very valuable to health. Each offer something a little different to our bodies needs. Sweet potatoes are loaded with beta-carotene, lots of calcium, and vitamins A and C.

While the avocado provides the body with generous amounts of good fat (monosaturated fat) and potassium, a vital mineral that our body needs.

And don’t forget there are many other healthy foods out there besides what I mention in this article. Nuts, beans, whole grains, and fish are also very healthy foods and each serves their purpose well.

The best advice for an overall healthy eating guide would be to eat a variety of different organic foods in each of the food groups. This will ensure you are receiving a balanced diet.
