BMI Calculator: How To Calculate BMI, BMI Body Fat Calculator
Adult BMI Calculator
The BMI calculator is basically used to calculate how overweight or obese you are using your current height and weight. This form of measuring does correlate well with measurements of body fat such as underwater weighing. Therefore it is a fairly accurate and quick and easy way to measure the amount of body fat on your person.
Having said the above, the bmi does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass. So a body builder who has a lot of muscle may be given an overweight or obese reading while his actual body fat is at a very low percentile. It is also inaccurate with pregnant women. Finally there is a more accurate bmi for kids.
The formula for calculating your bmi is dividing your weight in pounds by your height in inches squared, then multiplying that by 703. You can do this long hand or just input the above values into the calculator below, which is what most people including myself would probably do.
Compare your results with the following guidelines:
BMI below 18.5 = underweight
BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 = normal weight
BMI between 25.0 and 29.9 = overweight
BMI of 30.0 and greater = obese
Use the above guidelines along with what you read in this website to learn what you can do to reach your health goals. If you are not within the range you want to be in, do not be discouraged. You only need to make some minor adjustments in your eating habits and activity levels in your day. Read through this website and learn how simple changes can make a difference.
