It would be far healthier, and better on the budget, to buy brown rice, legumes, lentils and peas. Then make meals using these as the base for meatless dishes. When you want to eat meat, buy some fresh fish, chicken or turkey and grill, bake, or roast in the oven with herbs and other seasonings.

Have a good portion of either raw or steamed vegetables and a green salad on the side. Now that sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? Remember that foods in their natural state are going to be fairly good for you. Frozen fish sticks and hot pockets are only calorie-laden foods with minimal nutrition.

Ok, so you’re too busy to come home and cook healthy meals after work. The alternative is to let the crock-pot do the cooking for you. There are numerous crock-pot cookbooks that will show you some tips and tricks as well as wonderful recipes for crock-pot cooking.

From stews to whole chickens and roasts, the crock-pot does an incredible job cooking whatever you leave in it for the day. And because it cooks slowly and leaves moisture in, it makes meals taste delicious and juicy. Crock-pot cooking will definitely make eating healthy easy on you.

Saving time in the kitchen and still eating healthy is a cooks dream. Here are a couple of timesaving tips you might want to try. Roast a large 20-pound turkey as you would on the holidays. Then take the meat off the bone and refreeze in serving portions to use for casseroles, enchiladas, soups, stews, stir-fries and sandwiches.

Prepare your favorite tomato sauce such as Ragu or marinara sauce and freeze in serving size containers for use for pasta and rice dishes. This actually saves a great deal of time. Here’s why.

Boil your favorite whole grain pasta, which takes about ten minutes to cook for al dente. While the pasta is cooking, heat up the tomato sauce on the stove. Warm up the whole-wheat rolls in the oven, and make a green salad.
