Eating Disorders In America: Media Affects Eating Disorders
Psychological Eating Disorders
There are several different kinds of eating disorders that usually affect females, but males can also become affected. Young girls and women are mostly affected because they participate in a lot of different crash diets and fad programs trying to lose weight. Weight loss is of utmost concern for those with disorders focused on eating.
These disorders can be as mild as overeating on dessert or as harsh as purging up food after you eat a meal. About 60% of food disorders can be completely eradicated from a persons life for good with the right counseling.
Eating Healthy For Life
To completely recover from an eating disorder, lifestyle must change through attitude. That means to be aware of the healthy choices you have and change your way of eating to improve your health.
It helps greatly to be aware of all aspects of nutrition so the sufferer can have a better understanding of what healthy eating really means. Food bingeing and overeating are probably the most common disorders of consumption in America.
Most people eat more than they should. Most cities boast several different types of buffets, where all-you-can-eat give the food addict more for their money, literally.
The obese and overweight individual has to be the one to say “no” to overeating and food bingeing. All you can eat buffets, greasy spoons, and fast food restaurants aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Eating Disorder Recovery and Emotions
Food addiction, like any other addiction has a lot to do with our emotional health. When we’re upset, we eat. When we’re fearful, we eat. When we’re bored, we eat. When we’re feeling good, we eat. Food becomes our best friend.
The problem with that is the food we eat doesn’t always treat us like a friend. In fact, most foods that bingers choose to eat are sweet, greasy, junk type foods and are bad for health. Bingeing wouldn’t be so bad if we stuck to carrot and celery sticks.
To get a handle on food bingeing and overeating we must understand our emotions and learn to deal with what life throws us without the crutch of food. If your emotions are controlling you to eat, then you need to take control of your emotions. Find another outlet. A more positive outlet for your emotions other than food.
You can then begin to make this new outlet, whether its going for a walk, reading a book, calling a friend, or drinking lots of water, a positive habit in your life. Get the habit of food bingeing out of your life and fast!
Disorders Of Eating In Our Teenagers
Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia are both treatable disorders, but they need special attention and care to treat properly. Fragile, young minds need not only psychiatric counseling, but nutritional counseling as well.
Young people need to understand about nutrition starting from a young age so when they grow up they retain this valuable information. If they are taught a better way of eating when young, it will improve the health of our youth mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
