Fast Food Statistics

Fast Food Danger

Fast food statistics show that eating fast food more than once a week is not good for your health. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, it makes it a double whammy on health. There are a ton of calories in fast food. Therefore, eating greasy burgers and fries can cause needless weight gain, obesity, and overall poor health.

Fifty million people in the US are dependent on fast food. That is a lot of people eating a poor diet. America is not the only country with fast food chains, but the statistics on overweight Americans will cause you to believe we are the leaders in this industry. Most major cities of the world have fast food restaurants such as McDonalds, Subway and Burger King.

Fast Food Statistics on Nutrition

Nutritionally speaking, eating a fast food diet on a regular basis is not very beneficial to your health. Major fast food chains now publicly display nutritional content of their food, including fat and cholesterol of each food item for the world to see.

This was a smart move on their part because now they can’t get sued if someone gains too much weight or gets sick from the food.

No doubt about it, fast food is addicting. The sugar and fat in any food, whether it is fast food or store bought denatured food, is addicting. A McDonalds Quarter Pounder with Cheese has a whopping 510 calories and 230 of those calories are from fat.

The cholesterol content in this burger is 90 mgs. It also boasts 9 grams of sugar. Now compare this figure to a turkey sandwich from Subway.

A Subway 6-inch Turkey Breast Sandwich has 280 calories and only 3.5 of those calories are from fat. So which fast food chain is best for your health? It is quite eye opening.

Fast Food Statistics on the Most Popular Fast Food Joints

The most popular fast food chains are where most of the fifty million Americans go and eat regularly. The truth is when you are young and energetic, you can get away with eating lots of cholesterol and sugary foods on a regular basis.

However, it will catch up to you eventually. Ironically the chain that sells the most nutritious foods is not on the list of the most popular.

The five most popular fast food chains are Wendy’s leading the pack with Taco Bell coming in second, then McDonalds, Burger King, and KFC coming in last. The calories in a Wendy’s Quarter Pound Single without cheese are 430! Wow, that is a lot of calories for just a burger.

Many people who are on the Atkins Diet plan tend to eat out a lot because it is easy to find restaurants and chains that cater to this type of diet. This diet is mostly meat, no or very low carbohydrates, and very few vegetables. It is not a diet program for just anyone, that’s for sure.

Fast Food Statistics and The Healthiest Fast Food

We know that eating fast food more than once a week is not good for the body and yet many people still eat fast food out of convenience. This is sad and it truly doesn’t have to be this way.

Eventually those greasy fries, fatty burgers, and sugary soft drinks will turn into major health ailments such as digestive issues, and even colon cancer.

If you really feel the need to eat out, seek out fast food restaurants that cater to the healthy lifestyle. Studies have shown that Panera Bread Company is the healthiest fast food restaurant in America. Subway can be healthy if you eat only certain things off the menu like the turkey or vegetarian sandwich.

Remember, unhealthy foods are addicting. That means the more you eat unhealthy foods, the more you will crave that type of food. Once your body becomes acclimated to eating more nutritious, wholesome foods, it will not crave the fast food junk like it once did.
