Would you like a free guide to eating healthy? Then read this article. Eating healthy does not have to be hard. In fact, by following a few simple guidelines, you’ll be well on your way to a healthier you! You can also add your own guidelines according to what you want to accomplish from your diet.

The most important thing you must do to be healthy is to cook your own meals. This certainly does not mean you can’t go out to a restaurant once in awhile. It means don’t make eating out a habit. Cooking in ensures fresher, healthier, more wholesome food, at least most of the time.

Free Guide To Eating Healthy: Whole Foods

Anyone can boil some processed meat hotdogs and wrap a white flour bun around it and eat dinner. This is not the kind of cooking that I’m talking about. I’m talking about cooking foods that are going to provide you with adequate amounts of nutrition that our bodies need to be healthy.

Hot dogs and white flour have no nutritional value and if you eat like this on a regular basis you will be sick. Whole foods such as whole wheat bread with sliced breast of turkey and whole chickens make a much better meal.

This meal is loaded with vitamins and minerals too. This is the kind of cooking that I am talking about.

Free Guide To Eating Healthy: Organic

If you can afford to go the organic route then by all means do so. Organic meats and produce are more expensive than non-organic and not everyone can afford the luxury of eating all their foods organic.

If you can’t buy all your foods organically, that’s ok. I wouldn’t fret over it too much if you are doing everything else you can to eat food that is as fresh and wholesome as possible.

Just remember that organic means cleaner, fresher produce without the pesticides and herbicides. It means cleaner, tastier meat without the antibiotics, hormones, and other toxic additives they are adding to the meat for preservation.

If you can, grow your own vegetables in the summer to ensure the freshest veggies possible.

Free Guide To Eating Healthy: Keep It Simple

Simple cooking means fewer ingredients. It also means using ingredients that you already have in your kitchen cupboard, freezer and refrigerator. Below are some whole foods that every kitchen should have for making healthy eating plans.
  • Staple Foods - Whole-wheat flour, oats, corn meal, millet, barley, rye, whole grain pasta, brown rice, beans and legumes.
  • Vegetables - Bell peppers, onions, garlic, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, celery, cabbage and broccoli. Frozen vegetables like peas, corn, green beans is good to have on hand because they are good in soups.
  • Fruits – Apples, and then having these all the time or at anytime oranges, bananas, grapes, dried fruit, such as raisins, figs, prunes, dates, etc.
  • Dairy – Parmesan cheese, cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, and milk, preferably unpasturized. A low fat option to cows milk is soy milk. Also goat’s milk and cheeses are healthy choices.
  • Meats – Chicken, turkey, beef, veal, lamb, fish, and eggs.
  • Raw Foods – Dark leafy greens, sprouts, and all of the vegetables mentioned above that are appropriate for eating raw. Also you should have at least two different kinds of raw, unsalted nuts such as pecans, cashews, almonds, etc.
  • Canned Foods – I’m not an advocate of canned foods. I would never buy canned vegetables, soups, beans, fruits etc.

    But, some things we have to buy in the can, such as: sardines, tuna fish, oysters, tomatoes and tomato sauce. Just make sure that the only ingredients are the fish in oil and the tomatoes.

  • Spices and Herbs – All spices and herbs are great for adding additional flavors to your meal creations.

    No kitchen should be without these: Sea salt, basil, oregano, thyme, poultry seasoning, peppercorns (not the flakes), rosemary, chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Now, according to the whole foods mentioned above, how many wonderful and tasty dishes could you prepare with them? An array of possibilities! Have fun creating in the kitchen!
