Head lice are a parasitic infection that occurs mostly on the head and in the groin area. Lice are usually contracted from dirty living conditions. When school children have lice and go to school, it becomes an epidemic and difficult to contain because it is highly contagious.

Head lice is not normally dangerous to your health. However, some lice carry typhoid fever and other diseases, which can make it unsafe. Therefore, prevention is the key. Washing and changing bedding and clothing often will prevent lice from appearing in your home.

Does Eating Whole Foods Combat Head Lice?

No matter how healthy a person is, they can still become infected with lice. Even so, healthy eating is still an important aspect of overall good health. Proper diet should be maintained.

Parasites can cause intense itching of the scalp, which can break the skin and cause an infection. If a person with lice gets a secondary infection from parasites, or if the lice is carrying a disease, it is best to be as healthy as possible.

Eating foods such as lots of garlic and onions deters mosquitoes. So, I would imagine that it would also deter bed bugs and the lice parasite. Eating well can and will be a benefit to you or your child if there are secondary infections associated with lice infestation.

Are There Any Natural Treatments For Head Lice?

Yes, there are several natural treatments. A straight mixture of apple cider vinegar, garlic oil, and black walnut husk extract can be administered for scalp lice. The above herbal blend would be considered healing foods.

They work together exterminating the nits (parasite eggs). They also disinfect any broken areas of the skin, which would prevent infection.

Another very common food that has been shown to kill lice is mayonnaise. Simply spread the mayonnaise all over the child’s hair and down the nape of the neck. Then cover with a shower cap or plastic wrap.

Leave the mayo in the hair and neck area for two hours to smother the lice and any eggs that have developed. Interesting! Who would have thought?

Lice multiply quickly. Everything and everyone that the infected person came into contact with needs to be cleaned. Every member of the family should be checked for lice.

Combs, brushes, towels, bedding, linens, carpets, and mattresses all need to be treated with the above apple cider and black walnut husk mixture. Add two cups of the mixture into the carpet machine before cleaning the carpets.

Add two cups per each load of laundry to wash the bed sheets and linens. Be sure to get rid of the vacuum bag after vacuuming the carpets.

More Natural Treatments For Head Lice

Aloe Vera is especially beneficial to use in between treatments. Aloe heals bite wounds caused from the parasites. Take a leaf, slice it open, and apply the aloe gel directly to the scalp area.

Apple Cider Vinegar is a great infection fighter and disinfectant. Put some straight apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and spray directly on the scalp.

Grated garlic and onions can be used as an antiseptic as well. Mix the grated onions and garlic with olive oil and apply to infected areas or bites.

Black walnut husk extract can be added to your bath water for a whole body cleanser. While filling the bathtub, add a single or combination of herbs desired to your bath water. Tinctured or liquid black walnut teas work great for this soothing soak bath.
