What are healthy diet programs? Most diet programs don’t work in the long run. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to change the way you are eating. Poor eating habits are the cause of ill health and weight gain. Eating a natural diet keeps the weight off.
There are definitely certain foods that should not be eaten if you want to lose weight and be healthy. Easy healthy diets are ones that become a natural part of your eating lifestyle.
Mediterranean Diet
The Mediterranean diet is not a diet program but a way of eating for cultures that live along the Mediterranean coastline. It’s a diet that consumes lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes and healthy fats from fish and olive oil.
The Mediterranean diet, especially in southern Italy does not consume a lot of red meat. In fact meat comprises a very small part of the Italian diet.
The diet along the Mediterranean would be a good diet for heart patients to adapt to. Studies have shown that those people who live along the Mediterranean in areas of Italy, Greece, and France have a far less incidence of heart disease. The Mayo Clinic heart diet is similar to the Mediterranean diet.
The Problem With Diet Programs
The main problem with diet programs is that many of them are not healthy. Some of them exclude foods in the diet that are needed, such as whole grains in the Atkins diet. Many diabetics think they can’t eat fruit because of its sugar content, but that is not true.
The sugar in fruit is natural and will not harm a diabetic unless that is all they are eating, which is never the case.
Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables are the cornerstone to good health, and excluding any of these from the diet is asking for trouble. Are there any healthy diet programs that work? There is probably not one single diet program that is completely healthy. This is why eating a natural diet of all the food groups is the best on health.
In the case of the vegetarian lifestyle, eliminating meat from the diet can be quite healthy. Although be sure to add protein and iron from another food source, such as legumes and lentils. Calcium can also be replaced with dark greens, nuts and seeds, and many fruits and vegetables.
Are There Any Healthy Diet Programs?
The best all around free healthy diet is going to be an all natural one that includes the five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables, eleven servings of whole grains, some fish, poultry, nuts, and some dairy or dairy substitute. Dairy and red meat are both high in animal fat and if you are trying to lose weight, should be used sparingly.
Healthy Diet For Teenagers
Teenagers should be eating the same natural diet described above. Teenagers need lots of calcium for strong bones and teeth, as well of lots of mineral rich foods for hormone and emotional health. Poor diet in teenagers often presents itself in emotional outbursts, and self esteem issues.
Too much sugar and refined food products in a young persons diet is very detrimental to their growth ad overall health. As you can see there are healthy diets, but not healthy diet programs!
