Healthy Dog Foods: Making Your Own Dog Food

Home Cooked Dog Food

Healthy dog foods are going to most likely be the homemade fresh foods that you prepare for your dog. Most commercially prepared pet foods leave much to be desired.

The statements debunking manufactured dog foods that are circulating the Internet are alarming. Reading about some of the substances that are added to commercial pet foods would make you sick. Not only that, but you may decide to never buy pet food again.

Healthy Dog Foods For Healthy Eating Alternatives

Making your own food for your dog is a healthy alternative to commercially prepared dog foods. Not only is it healthier but also more cost effective. Like people, dogs do better physically when they stay away from packaged foods.

Your dog needs protein foods to be healthy as well as other vitamins and minerals. Their diet should consist of fish, chicken and turkey, whole grains and vegetables. You can also give your dog a multivitamin if you want.

Making homemade dog foods is simple because your dog is not picky like we humans can sometimes be. In fact, most dogs eat most vegetables, so by all means include them in a healthy dog diet.

You could probably get away with hiding bean spouts and garlic in your dogs brown rice and chicken dish, and they wouldn’t even know it. Wow, what a way to make your dog the healthiest dog on the block! Dogs are easy to please.

Healthy Dog Foods For A Shiny Coat

The same foods that provide people with a shiny coat of hair; strong nails, bones and teeth are the same foods that give dogs all of those things—minerals! Dogs will eat oatmeal, wheat, fruits and vegetables.

Try giving your dog a piece of apple. Most dogs love apples and will gobble them right up. Dogs also love soaked wheat berries.

Next time you go to the grocery store, read the ingredients in dog food. It will say, wheat and corn. Why not give your dog the real thing—wheat berries. The wheat they are referring to in manufactured dog food is processed and devoid of any real nutrients.

Healthy Dog Foods For A Happy Dog

Remember, if you decide to make homemade meals for your pets, you should know a few food safety guidelines. Don’t give your dogs bones of any kind, unless they are ground down and mixed into the food that way. Even small fish bones can get caught in the throat.

Your dog does not need a lot of animal fat, so there is no need to give them meat skins, gravies, fats, and juices from the meats you cook. Unlike cats, which need meat, dogs can be vegetarian if they are given the right protein foods.

Introduce new healthy foods into your dogs diet and see if they like it. Don’t give your dog white floured products unless you want to see them with a drab, itchy coat and fat. There are healthy homemade dog foods and then there are unhealthy ones. Do you know the difference?

Healthy Dog Foods vs. Unhealthy Dog Foods

It is the same rule that applies to people. Healthy food is the whole food. White bread, pasta, and white rice are not healthy foods. These foods clog up the system and can possibly cause food allergies in your dog. They cause food allergies in humans, so why not animals?

Dogs don’t need to be treated with sweets, junk foods, and fatty meats. Their taste buds are not that sophisticated to care, unless you obviously gave them a choice. Dogs aren’t stupid either, but if you want a healthy pet you wouldn’t feed them unhealthy foods, right?

Give your dog the simple foods of nature and they will be overjoyed to be fed. Also, you will be overjoyed to own a healthy dog.
