Healthy Eating Guidelines

I have been a follower of Ayurveda and its diet pattern since the days of schooling when I understood the basics of it. Since then, I have found not just in me but also with my family and all my patients that I try to help with such a type of diet pattern.
1] Eat when you are Hungry: I have always followed this simple rule that, now a days, many of us forget to do so. We eat and let others eat just because it is the time to eat. Try always asking a question to yourself before eating .Am I hungry yet? See and notice the answer to eat.
2] Do not eat in excess or not enough: One important point that I always consider doing is maintaining balance when eating. Even though I like my mama’s food, still I would never over eat myself, nor do I like my weight to get out of control, so would fast a lot. Both things in Ayurveda are considered to be unhealthy.
3] Balanced Diet: WHO do you think has recommended a balanced Diet, which is unique in its own way for a person to be healthy? Good quantity of protein, may it be meat or beans. carbohydrates, may it be a pasta or pitta and vegetables, and fats. To be healthy, one needs to have all this in a balanced way.
4] Natural Sugar :When I eat sugar, I prefer to eat in moderation. If possible, I prefer sugar from natural sources like fruits and honey rather than eating cakes and pastries.
5] Chew well!!: Last but not the least, one of the important thoughts that my grandmother used to say when I was young is to make sure I chew every single morsel thousands of times. Eat and Chew well she used to say. I am sure I still appreciated the fact that I could eat and enjoy every single morsel of the food I eat every day.
The one thing that I notice is that eating healthy and properly always makes a person happy and full of life, so try it and see.
