Healthy Weight For Kids: Good Diet Foods For Overweight Children

Healthy Eating Kids

What is a healthy weight for kids? A healthy weight would be determined by height and bone structure of your child. There are growth charts online to check your child’s weight according to height and build to find ideal weight.

Does your child have small, medium, or large bones? Bone structure means a lot when determining ideal weight in children.

Healthy Weight For Kids Through Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is an important first step for the overweight or fat child. But sometimes we associate healthy eating with the wrong foods. Diet foods that use low fat substitutes and frozen meals that cater to dieters are not always conducive to losing weight efficiently.

Food manufactures and fast food chains are very aware of health conscience individuals. Because of this, many of them create “so called” healthy substitutes for the dieter who is trying to lose weight. But the best way to lose weight is not eating diet foods, healthy fast food, or convenience foods, but eating a natural, whole foods diet.

It is very important that kids eat a balanced diet because their bones, brain, joints, and organs are growing. Kids need essential fatty acids from fish, protein and calcium for strong bones and teeth, and good amounts of zinc and magnesium foods for healthy brain health.

Instead of eating processed convenience foods or fast food, cooking natural foods from scratch is what your child will thrive on. You’ll notice the difference in your child’s weight and emotional health after only one week of eating wholesome, natural foods.

Healthy Weight For Kids Depends on Healthy Eating Habits

Sadly enough, childhood obesity is on the rise in this country. Why do you think there is so much obesity in adults and children? Could it have anything to do with poor eating habits? Being uninformed about nutrition is the biggest reason for being overweight or obese.

If children and parents were better informed about nutrition and how it plays such a big role in maintaining ideal weight, many of them would discontinue eating processed foods.

The second biggest reason for obesity in this country is many parents are not cooking anymore. The microwave probably gets used more than the stove or oven.

Convenience foods and eating out in restaurants are all popular substitutes for busy parents who do not have the time to cook or who do not want to cook. But all of those convenience foods are hurting the health of both parents and children in the long run.

Healthy Weight For Kids Means Home Cooking

The worse foods on the list that cause obesity are soda pop, chips, processed packaged sweets, and convenience foods. For the soda pop, carbonated water or herbal tea can be substituted. For the potato chips, whole potato wedgies baked with olive oil can be substituted.

For the packaged sweets, home made baked goods can be substituted using whole-wheat flour and a little honey or maple syrup. And instead of the convenience foods, cooking more whole foods would be a good choice.

Including more fish and leaner meats in the obese child’s diet. Offering more nutritious foods for snacks like fruits, smoothies, nut mixes and homemade baked goods would give your children the nutrition they need.
