Kids Eating Healthy Food: Healthy Eating Children

Healthy Kids Food

Kids eating healthy food can be as simple as swapping a packaged sweet for a piece of fruit or some nuts in your child's lunch box. At first, when you take away the junk food, they may complain about it.

Kids love to see how far they can get with you. Its sort of a game for them. But you already knew that, right? Give them a big hug and smile and keep giving them healthy foods. Kids thrive on consistency. That just means to make eating healthy a habit.

Kids Eating Healthy Food: Who’s The Boss?

Who’s the boss in your kitchen? Parents need to understand that each time they give in to their children’s way of eating, they are doing them a disservice. The more you give them their way, the harder it will be breaking them away from bad eating habits.

This happens because they know they can get away with it. You need to be the boss of what your children eat. It’s the only way! Your kids will mature some day and be glad that you fed them healthy food when they were growing up.

Kids Eating Healthy Food: Healthy Snacks

There are so many options when it comes to preparing healthy snacks for your children. Some snacks can even be sweet and still be good for them.

Granola cereals made with raw honey are one option and so simple to make. It is a delicious, yet healthy snack that you and your children will both love.

Let’s Make Granola!

Ingredients:
  • Six cups of rolled oats
  • One cup sesame seeds
  • One half cup sunflower seeds
  • One half cup bran flakes
  • One cup unsweetened coconut
Combine the above in a bowl. Then add:
  • One half cup honey
  • One quarter cup coconut oil, olive oil, or safflower oil
Mix in the above in the prepared bowl. Spread this mixture out on two baking sheets and bake in a 325-degree oven for about ten minutes, checking often because it burns easily. Let cool. Add one to two cups of raisins or other dried fruit and enjoy! Keeps for several days in a pantry in an airtight container.

Kids Eating Healthy Food: Become Health Informed

It can be hard to maintain a healthy eating lifestyle in your home. Your children’s friends may come over and bring junk food with them. And to top that off, what are your kids eating in school when you aren’t watching?

This is why it is a good idea to not just tell your children how healthy such and such foods are for them but to show them. Get on the Internet or go to your local library and find out all you can about healthy eating through nutrition.

Have your children read to you about the benefits of eating organic fruits and vegetables. How many servings should they eat a day? How do fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains protect our heart, veins, and arteries?

Blood sugar levels going whacky are one reason why we are seeing so many health problems in our children.

Why is a whole grain diet healthier than a white flour diet? They need to read about all of this health stuff for themselves. Kids don’t want to be nagged at about what they can or cannot eat. Let them see for themselves what eating healthy can do for them in the long run. Then they will want to choose the healthy foods over the unhealthy ones.

Kids Eating Healthy Food: Encourage Your Children

If your kids are old enough to help out in the kitchen, by all means, let them help. Encourage them to be interested in their health when they are young. They can also do Internet searches for recipes that use whole grains and other wholesome ingredients.

The Internet is loaded with good recipes that are healthy. Or break out those old Betty Crocker Cookbooks. The older the cookbook, the better because they still used wholesome ingredients.

Your children will probably love to be a part of the healthy cooking lifestyle in your home. It gets them involved in something they know makes a positive difference in their life.

Once your children are informed about good foods and bad foods, they can choose their own healthy snacks for school and for home. Living the healthy eating lifestyle is definitely a family affair. Become informed about eating healthy!
