Nutrition Vitamins Supplements

Who should take nutrition vitamins supplements? There are certain groups of people who may need to supplement with vitamins because of nutritional deficiencies or the inability to be responsible for what they eat.

But for most people, who are in control of their shopping and cooking, it is far better on health to receive nutrition from food.

Who Should Supplement?

There are a small number of people who at some time in their life may need to supplement. Pregnant and nursing women, the elderly, institutionalized, immune compromised, some vegetarians, fad dieters, and unwise eaters may need to supplement with nutrition vitamins supplements.

Pregnant and breast-feeding women need extra nutrients for baby. People who are institutionalized are far from getting a balanced diet. The meatless diet lacks Vitamin B12. B12 is only found in eggs, fish, and meat. Although, new research has shown that kelp and other seaweeds have B12. Good news for vegetarians.

The elderly who are indoors a lot or bed ridden may lack vitamin D, which is essential for good health. Natural vitamin D comes from the sun’s rays absorbed into the skin. If a person lacks vitamin D, they will most likely lack in calcium as well since the body needs adequate amounts of vitamin D for proper absorption of calcium.

Eating a Balanced Diet

The good news is if you eat a balanced diet, which consists of a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, some dairy and meat, or equivalent substitutes, you should be supplied adequately with all of your nutritional needs. Eat five different colors of fruits and or vegetables every day!

Calcium is not only found in dairy products but from dark greens, some nuts, and many fruits and vegetables. Protein and iron is supplied through eating beans, nuts and lentils. If you’re eating a dark green salad every day and fresh sprouts, such as alfalfa, wheat berry and or sunflower sprouts, you shouldn’t have to supplement.

Are the Soils Really Depleted of Vitamins?

This is an often-misunderstood subject. We are often told that the earth’s soils are getting depleted and we should supplement with vitamins. But understand the soils they are talking about are from huge commercial agricultural farming, and not your average small organic farmer or home gardener.

The large commercial farmers that use harsh chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides will eventually deplete the natural richness of the soil. This causes mineral depletion in the soil’s ecosystems. This is what the problem is!

Smaller organic farmers and home gardeners do not have this problem because they add natural organic products into the soil, such as kitchen refuse, manure, and lime, which promotes healthy soil and ecosystem. The organic grower actually replenishes the soil rather than depletes it.

Even though some inorganic foods may be lacking in nutritional qualities, you can supplement in a number of ways, such as growing your own dark, leafy greens and sprouting and juicing, rather than taking vitamin supplements.

Supplements are cooked, highly processed little tablets that may or may not provide you with your nutritional needs. Nutrition vitamins supplements aren’t for everyone. Some supplements are better than others, so do your research. It’s always best to get your vitamins and minerals from healthy eating..
