South Beach Diet Pros And Cons

Sponsored Links

The south beach diet is about three different phases of eating. There are foods you are allowed to eat and foods you aren’t in each phase. When each phase of eating is finished, you can reintroduce foods that weren’t allowed in phase one back into your diet.

Sounds really confusing to me. Did you know that the south beach diet does not allow you to eat fruit or oatmeal in the phase one way of eating? Both of these foods are excellent for your health. Soy products and dark meat poultry are also foods not allowed while on phase one of the diet.

How The South Beach Diet Works

This diet program supposedly works to substitute your bad fats and carbohydrates for good ones. What does that mean exactly? It means that fatty foods and oils will be substituted for good for you oils, which is a good start.

This diet only uses Olive or Canola oil for their first phase (2 weeks) of its program. This is a pro for any diet program.

Bad carbohydrates are ones that are made out of refined flours. These will be replaced with whole grains, which is also another good start to losing weight. But this won’t start until the second phase of eating. Phase one does not allow any carbohydrates or starchy type foods.

Vitamins, especially calcium are encouraged during this diet. All beverages, even coffee and black tea, are allowed in moderation. The most confusing aspect of this way of eating is in knowing what NOT to eat during each phase and what you can eat.

What happens if you are invited to a dinner party and they serve something that is not allowed in your diet, such as dark meat poultry from phase one? Just a thought.

Dieting should not be made so difficult. Supporters for this diet program say that after two weeks you will lose between 8 to 13 pounds. Losing weight or staying at an optimal weight level is never easier than eating organic, natural food products.

The best weight loss tips are those that incorporate whole foods into the diet. This diet does do that after phase one is finished. This is another pro for this particular diet.

The South Beach Diet And Sugar Substitutes

The beach diet uses sugar substitutes like Nutrasweet, Saccharine and Splenda. These sugar substitutes are very bad for your health. They may keep the weight off, but they may also do damage to your insides if eaten on a regular basis.

All types of whole fruit are to be avoided, for two weeks, while on phase one of this diet program. That would be difficult to do for many people who enjoy fruit in the morning for breakfast and for snack. Both of these are cons for this way of eating.

Finally, when phase two rolls around whole grains, fruit, and soy milk are reintroduced back into the diet. Phase two is probably the best way to eat while on this diet. Phase three of this program does not start until you have hit your target weight loss.

They say that once you reach phase three you will stay there for the rest of your life. This is because they want you to make this way of eating a permanent lifestyle.

Supposedly phase three of this program is the same as phase two. Advocates for this weight loss program say when the weight starts creeping back up, modify the foods you are eating and the amounts.

It is not clear what they mean exactly by this statement, but probably what they mean is to revert back to some of the NOT allowed foods in phase one.

If you want to know more about this program there are many different websites advocating this way of eating. Additionally you can check the source article.
