Sunburn Remedies: Natural Home Remedies For Burns & Sunburns

Home Remedies For Sunburn

This article will explore six sunburn remedies. If you haven’t been out in the sun all winter, exposing your skin to the sun for longer than 15 minutes will guarantee sunburn. Getting sun burned over and over again is what causes skin cancer; it is not what we have been told.

Sunshine is excellent for your health and provides the body with natural vitamins, in particular, vitamin D. Lathering your skin with sunscreen is not wise; it goes directly through your pores and into your bloodstream.

The best way and the most natural way to prevent sunburn is to gradually get your skin used to being in the sun. Even light skinned, freckled people need sun exposure.

If you have very light skin and are afraid of getting sun burned, only spend five minutes at a time in the sun at first. If you get sun burned, there are some very good soothing remedies.

Sunburn Remedies: Aloe Vera

Exposing your body to the sun is great for your health, but with anything in life, moderation is the key. Lots of things are good for us, but if we over do it, then it becomes not so good for us anymore.

If you happen to get sun burned, holistic medicine recommends Aloe Vera gel from the Aloe Vera plant. Just snip a piece of the leaf off and inside is the gel. Apply this gel directly to the sunburn several times a day.

Sunburn Remedies: Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar has many topical uses for the skin, and sunburn is one of them. Make a fomentation using a soft cotton cloth or cotton balls and apply directly to the sunburn several times a day.

This will soothe the burn as well as provide an antiseptic cleaning agent to the burn, which is especially good if there are blisters present.

Another way to apply apple cider vinegar to the skin is through a spray bottle. Spray on every couple of hours for relief.

Sunburn Remedies: Bayberry

Two herbal medications warrant mentioning. Bayberry is especially good for slow healing sunburns. Make a tea and drink three or four times a day to speed up the healing process. You can also apply Bayberry as a fomentation or spray.

Spray or wipe directly on the sunburn several times a day. Keep the sunburn area moist by reapplying bayberry as often as needed for relief.

Sunburn Remedies: Calendula

Calendula is good for all types of sunburns. Calendula heals the skin’s damaged nerve endings. Make a tea and drink two or three times a day for faster healing. You can also apply Calendula directly to the sunburn with a cotton cloth, cotton balls, or spray bottle.

Try to keep the sunburn area moist with the cloth by reapplying as much as needed for relief. Calendula is available as a crème and tincture as well.

Sunburn Treatments: Vitamin E and Witch Hazel

Vitamin E oil is also a useful treatment to sunburn. Snip open several Vitamin E capsules and apply the oil directly on the sunburn. This also heals the damaged areas of the skin.

Another relief for sunburn is Witch Hazel. Apply Witch Hazel as a fomentation or spray and apply directly on the exposed burn several times a day.
