Vegetarian Protein Foods

There are many different foods that have protein in them. Vegetarian protein foods are great for losing weight on because they don’t have the animal fat that meat protein has.

Protein is one of the easiest vitamins to get from the foods we eat. If you’re eating a balanced diet, whether you are a vegetarian or not, then you are most likely getting adequate amounts of protein in your diet.

Vegetarian Protein: Soy Products

Foods made from soy are excellent protein foods. Starting from the incredible soybean you can make soy burgers, soy sauce, tofu, okara and soy milk. Many well-known vegetarian restaurants boast soy products on their menus.

You can also buy a soy based vegetarian protein product that makes a great meat substitute. You can use this soy-based protein in any recipes that call for meat such as chili and stuffed bell peppers.

The recipes you can create out of soybeans are endless. Asian diets use soy products in place of eating a lot of meat, and many of them are quite healthy people. This is where most of our recipes for soy food originate.

Vegetarian Protein: Legumes

Beans of all varieties boast a lot of protein. Each variety of beans has a different unique flavor, which makes cooking with beans a couple of times a week a healthy option. You can create flavorful soups, salads, spreads, enchiladas and pasta salad with beans…and this is just to name a few dishes off the top of my head.

Cold kidney beans are great in a crisp green salad and add a wonderful boost of protein. Chickpeas are excellent when made into Indian humus spread and used in vegetarian sandwiches. Black beans and rice go great together and make a hearty nutritious meal for anyone.

Have some corn chips on the side to go with your beans and rice. Pinto beans can be refried and added to whole-wheat pita bread and tortillas for great Mexican fare. Red beans go great in cold pasta salad.

With all of different textures, colors, and flavors of beans you can create easy healthy recipes that your family is sure to love. The many different ways you can use beans is amazing.

No one should be protein deficient in America. Although beans and peas have doubled in price in just the last year, they are still better on the budget than meat proteins, and better for your health.

Vegetarian Protein: Peanut Butter

Peanuts have just as much protein as soybeans. Real peanut butter (without sugar) is excellent for your health. Besides using peanut butter with Jelly or honey you can also spread it on celery sticks and you can also bake with it.

The peanut is actually a legume, which is why it is usually roasted. But raw peanuts are also edible and very good for your health.

Protein Foods: Seeds and Nuts

Many nut varieties also have good amounts of protein. Nuts and seeds also contain other important vitamins and minerals your body needs. For instance, raw almonds are loaded with calcium, while raw pumpkin seeds carry a lot of zinc.

Zinc is excellent for growing bones and helps to build up the immune system. Eating a variety of nuts and seeds is an essential step towards good health.

Even whole grains like brown rice and millet have some protein in them. But these foods are not loaded with it like the foods I mentioned above. Whichever way you slice it, there are lots of protein foods available to choose from to compliment anyone’s diet.
