What Are Organic Foods?

What are organic foods? Organic foods are those that are grown without harmful chemicals and fertilizers. Organic means the crops have not been sprayed with herbicides or pesticides, and the farm animals have not been given hormones, antibiotics, and are free range and grass fed. From farmer to dinner table the food is kept clean and pure.

Organic Foods Are Healthy Foods

What are organic foods? Organic foods are completely natural foods that have been given organic fertilizers and other substances during and after the growing process.

More and more small farmers are now growing organically. The demand for natural grown foods is becoming stronger as consumers become more health conscience.

Many grocery store chains offer a wide selection of organically manufactured foods, from brown rice to meats. Organic foods tend to cost a bit more but are much better for your health in the long run. So how will you know if it is really organic?

Produce that is grown organically will be labeled with a sticker that states it is “USDA” organic and it will usually name the state or county it was grown in.

Meats that are free of hormones and chemicals will state they are “certified organic” and “free range”, which means the animals weren’t cooped up all together in small dirty cages or living areas.

Maintaining a Healthy Eating Diet

It’s important that our food is clean and pure because what we ingest on a daily basis will show up somewhere in our body later as toxic accumulation. Many organic food advocates say that hormones and chemicals in the food are unhealthy to the body.

Some of the negative results of hormones in the meat are young children going through puberty at a very early age and developing immunity to antibiotics. These are routinely given to animals when they are sick.

Could these statements be true? Could chemicals and additives in our food be causing other health issues as well such as allergies, asthma, and weight gain? The food pyramidfood pyramid dieticians proudly let us know what foods we need to eat to be healthy.

But what they don’t tell us is that most of the food is full of chemicals and other damaging substances. So what are organic foods? Hopefully, organic foods are foods that won’t make us sick or turn us older before our time.

What Is A Healthy Eating Lifestyle?

Eating mostly organic foods? from all of the food groups and in the quantities according to the food pyramid is basically eating a good diet. Questions we must ask ourselves and explore further are: Are we really paying for organic food? Will manufacturers deceive us and give us impure food products that are labeled organic?

How will we really know? I guess this is where trust comes in. Understand that unless the food states “organic” somewhere on the product, it is probably not fully organic.

The only way to be one hundred percent safe knowing the food you buy is clean is if you grow your own food and farm the meat you’re going to eat. That is really not too farfetched.

Many country folks, everywhere in the world have been doing that for years and are still doing it. One thing is for sure. It may be more work to grow your own food, but it is the surest way to know that you are eating a healthy diet, and boy is it cost effective.
